My Opinion

The story subtly portrays the importance of compassion and emotional regulation in parenting and relationships. Avery runs away because of her father's harsh, unkind treatment, stemming from his lack of compassion and emotional neglect, as he’s consumed by his affair and personal frustrations. William’s infidelity reflects his own unresolved issues, leading him to lash out at Avery. Marion, the neighbor, exhibits extreme behavior, driven by her own trauma, ultimately leading to Avery's kidnapping. Marion’s actions highlight the dangers of unregulated emotions, emphasizing the need to manage our feelings, especially during difficult times, to prevent harm to others. This book serves as a reminder of the profound impact that neglect, trauma, and emotional instability can have on individuals and those around them.
